Why Evaluate

Every child learns differently and has a unique skillset which enables him or her to excel in certain subjects areas. Often times, the child's teacher or pediatrician may recommend the child be "evaluated".

The evaluation process is needed in order to confirm or rule out a learning disability, ADD, ADHD, developmental delay or behavioral concerns/issues warranting interventions. Testing may also be recommended to determine a child's level of performance so adequate school placement can be made and appropriate academic and therapeutic goals can be identified.

The Testing Process

Your child's test battery will be customized to answer referral questions and will include several areas of functioning including: academic, cognitive, perceptual, communication, social, emotional and behavioral. The testing process takes approximately 4 to 8 hours , depending upon the specific tests being performed . The actual testing time needed will be scheduled in sessions ranging from 1 to 3 hours in duration. This will be based on the child's age, attention span, and performance.

Upon completion, the psychologist will prepare a detailed report and meet with the family to discuss the results, answer all questions and make specific recommendations to address the child's weaknesses and/or diagnosis. Should a school review or IEP meeting be required, the psychologist will attend the meeting, if requested.
